“I love that I’m able to get up close and do just that, capture what music feels and looks like when artists perform.”
– Annette Geneva
It’s with this passion, and her incredible “lucky capture” of psychedelic rock duo The Kills at their Splendour In the Grass sideshow, that the Sydney-based photographer has snagged the August Moshcam Photography Award. To celebrate, Annette will be taking home $100 worth of credit from top photo printing suppliers Pixel Perfect (90 Abercrombie Street, Chippendale, 9319 0455).
Talking with Annette, it was clear that even getting her camera in the door at her “favourite venue” was a tough achievement. However, it clearly paid off, and the photographer took us through the magical moment she managed to capture at The Enmore a while back.
“It was at the end of the fifth song. Jamie [Hince] was still playing his guitar outro and Alison [Mosshart] knelt down for just a moment before the next song. It was a lucky capture. She was constantly moving, and completely ballistic on stage. Up until that point, the lighting wasn’t that great – but it was a beautiful, brief moment of stillness.”

A huge congratulations to the rest of this month’s photographers, who submitted some insane shots at some of our favourite gigs! Check out all the runners up here.
The Moshcam Photography Awards launched in June in order to reward excellence in live rock n’ roll photography and is open to everyone and anyone! The Awards have already seen thousands of incredible entries, with the winners on display here. A voting team comprised of industry photographers (Peter Dovgan, Belinda Dipalo and Josh Groom) and the Moshcam staff select four weekly winners to be featured on the Photography Awards page.
The panel then selects a monthly winner to win a prize from one of our industry sponsors. We’re excited to announce Pixel Perfect as our sponsor for the next two months, providing a $100 voucher for each monthly winner. Get snapping now! For full details on how to enter – head here.
All weekly winners also go in the running for exciting prizes at the Annual Award Ceremony to be held in Sydney next year, with the winners determined by guest judges.
A nod to the legends at Pixel Perfect for their support this month, and we’re looking forward to the next round!
