The Polaroid People

@ Metro Theatre, Sydney, 10 July 2009

The band consists of four Year 10 Kiama High School students, all drawing their musical influences from Pop/Rock Bands such as We The Kings, Mayday Parade, Boys Like Girls, The Academy Is, Forever The Sickest Kids, The Maine and The Getaway Plan. The band members are Joe Knott, 16, vocals & guitar, Ryan Mullaney, 15, bass guitar, Matt Lewis, 15, guitar, Jordan Dunster, 16, drums The Polaroid People first formed as a 3 piece band in March 2008, with Joe Knott on guitar & vocals, Jordan Dunster on drums & Ryan Mullaney on bass guitar. They played several shows at local venues such as Kiama Golf Club, Kangaroo Valley, and Kiama High School. The band set up a “MySpace” page in March 2008 and have since notched up almost 500,000 plays of their original music. In August 2008 they sought out a fourth band member and found Matt Lewis on guitar in their elective music class at school. As a 4 piece band they have been finalists in the Mercury/Bluescope Steel Band Comp 2008, the i98fm Battle of the Bands 2009, the Wollongong Wail Band Comp and Youth Rock 09, where they came 4th in the state. They have also played several charity events in Hindmarsh Park, Kiama, and performed at the Kiama Showground Pavillion and the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2009. They were awarded a Kiama Youth Arts Development Scholarship last year which helped fund the recording of 3 of their original songs and earlier this year won 2 days recording at Main Street studios in Wollongong. In March, this year, The Polaroid People reached number 5 in the unsigned artist section on Myspace. They also had their first air time on i98fm with their single “Our Own Way Out”. The highlight of their career so far has been the support slot at The Metro Theatre, Sydney, in July, where they played to a full house as the opening band for Short Stack’s Sway Sway Baby Tour.
