The members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs really do get around. As part of the Sydney Festival, one third of the YYYs, guitarist Nick Zinner, brought his latest and most ambitious project, 41 Strings, to the Sydney Opera House for all to envy. The prequel to 41 Strings was IIII, a 40-minute drum session, created by Hisham Akira Bharoocha, Ben Vida and Robert A.A. Lowe. It was not so much a warm-up band as a beat-up: more than 20 percussionists, armed with drum-kits, kick drums and assorted bits and pieces, smashed the hell out of their instruments while two synthesisers picked their way through the rhythms with shards of melody.
III (read Four) was presented at the Sydney Festival at the Sydney Opera House, in conjunction with Nick Zinner's 41 Strings.
This idea is originally based on a performance organized by Hisham Akira Bharoocha and Berrin Noorata, where forty drummers performed together with two synthesizer players in an event in New York City to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. This piece is created to expand creative networks by working with local musicians in different cities.
