As close to being overnight successes as you're likely to get nowadays, it’s been an epic few months for Melbourne band Strange Talk.

After officially forming just over a year ago, the quartet has already pricked up the ears of some very important people, including those at Kitsune and at Neon Gold.
The group uploaded a few demos on their MySpace page, and voila! - Their debut self-titled EP has now just been released, and they are ready to set out first headline tour locked in for next month.

While in reality, nothing is quite that simple, Stephen Docker (vocalist / producer) admits the current buzz surrounding the group has all come as bit of a surprise.

“It has been sort of an unexpected thing,” Docker says. “When we started, we just wrote a few songs for fun, but that’s the beauty of (putting music online), it’s a handy tool.

“A lot of new bands are being found in this way … and we are kinda excited about it.”

Calling in from a break in the studio where they are working on some writing for their future album, the band are striking while the iron is hot and they have also been recruited to perform at the upcoming Ben Sherman Big British Sounds events.

Now in its third year, the mini-festival showcases a selection of young and upcoming independent Australian talent live, and the only proviso is they play a couple of covers by British bands that have either influenced them, or simply made the tap along to the music.

“It’s going to be cool,” Docker says. “It’s always fun playing alongside other artists; and it’s good to meet other bands and pick up on what other bands are doing.”

Despite already looking towards the future with the writing of new material for an album, the group’s main focus has been directed on getting their live shows in order.

“We are looking forward to doing our album, and getting more songs down … but now we are focusing on our live shows,” Docker says.
“When we first started, we playing in the smallest places; but the good thing was we got to realise what works, and what doesn’t.

“We’ve added a few synths and gadgets and we are always trying to improve our shows … but we love it!”
