Considered as up there with the best of the thrash metal crew, Megadeth has become a god of its musical kind with fans, credited with increasing the popularity of the thrash metal sub-genre.

With an active career spanning over 25 years the band has undergone heaps of changes, meaning it boasts a history of 20 official members. The only two original members remaining today are guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson.

Megadeth has reportedly sold in excess of 25 million albums worldwide - not bad going for founding member Mustaine, who was sacked from mega band Metallica for reportedly clashing with the other band members, alongside his substance use and violent behaviour.

The Kills - Metro Theatre, Sydney

The Kills is a rock band formed by American singer Alison Mosshart ("VV") and British guitarist Jamie Hince ("Hotel"). Their first three albums, Keep On Your Mean Side, No Wow, and Midnight Boom have gathered much critical praise. Blood Pressures, their fourth and most recent studio album, was released on April 4, 2011 worldwide and April 5, 2011 in the United States. They are currently on tour in the United States and Canada until May 14, 2011. From there they are touring the United Kingdom and other countries throughout the Summer and Fall. However, they will return to the United States for Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 57th.

Mosshart was previously in Floridian punk rock band Discount, and Hince was in the British rock bands Fiji, Scarfo and Blyth Power (the latter describe themselves as a mix of The Clash, Steeleye Span and The Rubettes). The duo first met when Mosshart heard Hince practicing in the hotel room above hers, and when Scarfo and Discount disbanded, they struck up a songwriting partnership. For months, the pair air mailed work tapes across the Atlantic; this proved to test the patience of both artists as it took days or weeks to get each other's tapes, so Mosshart moved from her Florida home under the guidance of Lauren Antonina Herbert to London.

Wanting to cut themselves off from their pasts, Mosshart and Hince renamed themselves "VV" and "Hotel" respectively and began writing sparse, minimalist songs together with the aid of a drum machine. In 2001 they showcased their new songs on a well received demo tape; however, the pair shunned approaches from major record labels. Recording as VV and Hotel, they contributed the song "Restaurant Blouse" to the compilation If the Twenty-First Century Did Not Exist, It Would Be Necessary to Invent It. Shortly after this they recorded their debut release, the Black Rooster EP, which saw release on British indie label Domino Records and was picked up for distribution by Dim Mak Records in the United States.

The record could not have been more of a departure from both artists' previous bands. It was lo-fi in both musical and aesthetic terms. The record sleeve featured photos of Mosshart and Hince taken in a photo booth rather than professional photography. Musically, the record was a sparse, lo-fi Garage rock/Blues hybrid. Though the band cites Captain Beefheart, PJ Harvey, LCD Soundsystem, The Velvet Underground, The Fall, Patti Smith, Suicide and Royal Trux as immediate influences, the music press has largely compared them to another well-known boy/girl minimalist garage blues duo, The White Stripes.

In a hostile sea of disposable, throwaway singles, BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 have made a true album. White Lies For Dark Times is a timeless rock record, with a cohesive collection of music that is as raw, unrelenting and thunderous, as it is arrestingly haunting and emotional. On the raucous opening track, “Number With No Name,” Harper bellows “the very thing that drives you -- can drive you insane” over an infectious guitar line and a deftly serious groove that both thumps and propels the listener. The band then brings the listener full circle in the closing track “Faithfully Remain,” as Harper sings, “the truth just wastes away in all we can’t explain, but I faithfully remain.” The beauty of these lyrics works as a breathtaking release which balances out the anthemic urgency of songs such as “Shimmer and Shine” and “Up To You Now,” both of which are surely soon to be familiar staples at radio. This is American rock, the way it is supposed to sound and feel. In what may possibly be the greatest “how the band formed” story ever, Harper met guitarist Jason Mozersky in the late nineties, when the lead singer of Mozersky’s then band, WAN SANTO CONDO was working as a van driver shuttling bands back and fort to the venue for a Texas promoter. (The three members of the 7 all hail from Texas) The part time driver, part time musician took a risk that all artists must take at some point in their lives in order to succeed. He asked the then captive Ben Harper, “Can I play you my demo?” Harper obliged, and in his own words “was blown away,” and helped the band secure a record deal and release the self-titled Wan Santo Condo / Everloving Records, 2004. The band broke up after one record, but what survived was a lasting friendship between Harper and Mozersky. In 2005, Harper began recording sessions that would become a double record entitled Both Sides of the Gun (2006, Virgin Records). He invited his now long time friend Mozersky to lay down some guitar work on a track. Upon invitation to continue recording the next day, Jason arrived with at the studio with longtime friends, drummer Jordan Richardson and bassist Jesse Ingalls from the acclaimed Los Angeles based indie rock band OLIVER FUTURE. The session would spawn not only the song “Serve Your Soul” but the framework for Relentless7. In the summer of 2008, the chance arrived for these four uniquely talented members to reunite in the studio and dig deeper into the chemistry that was born during the Both Sides of the Gun sessions. It was soon apparent that their instincts were correct as the record quickly began to take shape. The songs from White Lies For Dark Times sound off with both the vast musical depth and experience of Harper, while commanding the pure urgency and intensity of an unknown band fighting for it’s life. This is clear in the song “Fly One Time” with the lyric “I’m caught in between what I can’t leave behind, and what I may never find” where BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 capture universal emotion while the song pulsates into a bass, drum and electric guitar anthem that would captivate any arena and crush any small club. In November 2008, the band debuted their new material on the Vote For Change Tour, where they also breathed new life into the Queen/David Bowie classic “Under Pressure,” which has since become a staple of their live set. They ended the year cutting their teeth with a series of small club shows from famed venues such as Spaceland and The Mint in Los Angeles, to The Mercury Lounge and Kenny’s Castaway in NYC. The band is scheduled to tour extensively across the world in 2009. BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7 intelligently has one foot in Harper’s past while every other limb and appendage reach towards the future. Any preconceptions or misconceptions in regards to a “Ben Harper sound” must now be adjusted, or thrown out all together. With BEN HARPER AND RELENTLESS7, the story of modern rock music is now being rewritten. ALBUM ‘WHITE LIES FOR DARK TIMES’ – RELEASED MAY 1 *For further information, pls contact your local Virgin Music representative, or check out: www.musichead.com.au / www.benharper.com

The DESCENDENTS, driven by “rejection, coffee, girls, fishing, and food”, emerged from the South Bay area of Los Angeles in late 1978 during the early days of the Southern California punk scene. They were influenced by everything from the Beach Boys, to fledgling punk bands like the Ramones and Black Flag. Originally a three piece, made up of guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson, the band released their debut single, Ride The Wild in 1979, while most of the members were still attending Manhattan Beach’s Mira Costa High School. After this first release the band was quickly joined by another high school friend, Milo Aukerman.

Aukerman became their lead vocalist and the band released the seminal debut LP, Milo Goes To College. Through the bowels of ingenuity the album’s fusion of catcy melodies and raw enerty has been said to have bred the “pop punk” genre. The album’s anthems, delivered by the crop-haired geek-cum-heartthrob, Aukerman, inspired the Los Angeles Times to write, “…perfect for the little guy who was ever called a nerd and never got the girl. The chain saw pop combined with earthy humor conveys what is often an inarticulate rage.” Despite the levity of the album’s tracks, Milo actually did go to college. Stevenson joined Black Flag, and thus began the first of many breaks for the band.

In 1985 Stevenson left Black Flag, Aukerman left college (for a while), and DESCENDENTS were reborn for the first of many times. Taking a more pop-flavored turn, and with a couple of line-up changes, the band continued touring and releasing albums. With the induction of Karl Alvarez on bass and Stephen Egerton on guitar, and the release of 1987’s ALL LP, the DESCENDENTS now had what Hit Parade magazine referred to as “killer chops”. However, in the fall of 1987, Aukerman went back to college, eventually earning a PhD, and embarking upon a career in research. Stevenson, Alvarez, and Egerton carried on under the name of ALL, further honing their musicianship and songwriting.

In 1996, inspired by his wife, Dr. Aukerman rediscovered his musical inclinations, which lead to the DESCENDENTS recording their first album in 9 years, Everything Sucks, a perfect return to the musical form that the band had become known for. Produced by Stevenson and Egerton at the band’s own aptly-named studio – The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado – Everything Sucks picks up exactly where ALL left off. Following a rigorous tour, Aukerman once again returned to his life in the lab.

In 2004 DESCENDENTS surprised fans once again with two new releases on Fat Wreck Chords – the EP ‘Merican and full-length Cool To Be You. Once again, Aukerman heeded the call in 2010, as DESCENDENTS return to play shows in Austin and Australia, as well as shows in Europe and North America for 2011. Of course, the future is unwritten. Just as it seemed DESCENDENTS closed their final chapter in musical history, the fourth decade of DESCENDENTS evolution begins.

DESCENDENTS have released six full-length studio LPs, an EP and two and a half live albums:

	• FAT (EP) - 1981
	• Milo Goes to College - 1982
	• I Don’t Want to Grow Up - 1985
	• Enjoy! - 1986

NIN's music straddles a wide range of genres, while retaining a characteristic sound using electronic instruments and processing. After recording a new album, Reznor usually assembles a live band to perform with him. The touring band features a revolving lineup that often rearranges songs to fit a live setting.

The Get Up Kids is an American alternative rock band from Kansas City, Missouri. Formed in 1995, the band was a major player in the mid-90's emo scene, otherwise known as the "second wave" of emo music. As they gained prominence, they began touring with bands such as Green Day and Weezer before becoming headliners themselves, eventually embarking on international tours of Japan and Europe. They founded Heroes & Villains Records, an imprint of the successful indie rock label Vagrant Records. While the imprint was started to release albums by The Get Up Kids, it served as a launching pad for several side-projects such as The New Amsterdams and Reggie and the Full Effect.

The Get Up Kids were viewed throughout their existence as a prototypical emo band, having been major players in the Midwest emo movement of the mid-1990s. However, like many early emo bands, The Get Up Kids sought to dissociate themselves with the term, as it was considered dismissive to be seen as an "emo band."Years later, guitarist Jim Suptic even apologized for having the influence they did on many of the modern third-wave emo bands, commenting that "[t]he punk scene we came out of and the punk scene now are completely different. It’s like glam rock now . . . If this is the world we helped create, then I apologize.”

Due to some internal conflicts, the band broke up in 2005. In 2008 the band announced a 2009 reunion tour to support the tenth anniversary re-release of Something to Write Home About, their most successful studio album. Soon after the reunion, the band entered the studio to write new material. In early 2010, the band released Simple Science, their first release in six years. In 2011 they released their new album There Are Rules.

In the summer of 2009, the band posted photos on their Twitter page showing the group in a recording studio, incurring speculation as to whether or not they were recording a new album. After embarking on the European leg of their reunion tour, the band confirmed that they were writing new material and would be playing at least one of the songs, entitled "Keith Case," on the tour. During a session with Daytrotter.com, the band reports that there is "a new album done and just waiting to be put out there sometime soon."In an interview with Fret12.com, Pryor confirmed that they have recorded nine new songs, and will be recording another twelve to release on three 7-track EPs, most likely on limited-run 12" vinyl.

On February 15, 2010 the band announced that they would be self-releasing a new EP entitled Simple Science, their first studio release in six years. The 4-song EP was released on 12" colored vinyl and CD in April.

On October 29, 2010, The Get Up Kids announced their fifth full-length studio album, There Are Rules, to be released on January 25, 2011. They also confirmed that the album would not be released on Vagrant Records, who had released their previous three albums, but on their own Quality Hill Records. The album was produced by longtime collaborator Ed Rose and mixed by Bob Weston, who produced the band's debut album. Several of the tracks were recorded during the same session as Simple Science, the track "Keith Case" appearing on both releases.

On April 1, 2011, The Get Up Kids announced a summer co-headlining tour with Saves The Day.

The former includes putting out 2 successful releases and touring the country countless times with some of the biggest names in local and international hardcore. The latter on the other hand, includes undergoing numerous lineup changes and on a greater scale, a tragedy in the death of a band member.

On November 19th 2008 Break Even experienced the unthinkable, when their guitarist Rowan Willoughby took his own life. Rowans untimely death took a toll not only on the members of the band, but with everyone in the hardcore community, leaving a giant question mark over the future of the band.

After some time the 4 remaining members returned to the rehearsal studio to see if they could go on with what they’d come to know as Break Even. Out of this process came their debut album, The Bright Side.

Aptly named, The Bright Side is a story of birth and death and everything in between. Recorded in March at Reading Room Studios in Perth, it is an honest and passionate statement that was written to remember, to inspire and to never forget.

BREAK EVEN released their debut album The Bright Side in June to rave reviews by both fans and critics alike. The album, came in at number 17 on the ARIA album chart (Australia) and reached number 7 on the national AIR chart.

Formed in May 2004, the band's name derives from the Velvet Underground song "The Black Angel's Death Song".

In 2005, the Black Angels were featured on a dual-disc compilation album of psychedelic music called Psychedelica Vol.1 from Northern Star Records. This, along with the growing popularity of their MySpace page, gave the band a big jump in popularity in the underground scene.

On Friday, August 5, 2007, they played at Lollapalooza in Chicago. Among other venues, they have also played at SXSW 2006 & 2008 and All Tomorrow's Parties 2008. Touring partners have included the blues rock band The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Warlocks, Roky Erickson, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Queens of the Stone Age, The Raveonettes and Wolfmother.

The group's debut LP Passover was generally well received in the underground independent rock community and was noted for its dark tones and lyrical content. A review of Passover described them as "Walking in the shadows cast by Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized mastermind Jason Pierce" and compared them to The Warlocks and Black Mountain, also invoking "dirges" reminiscent of both The Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators. Passover included a quote in the liner notes from Edvard Munch; "Illness, insanity, and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied me all my life."

The band was featured on the soundtrack of the 2007 Kevin Bacon movie, Death Sentence, on the second episode of FOX's "Fringe" and in the ninth episode of Californication. Songs from "Directions to See a Ghost" were also featured in The History Channel's 2009 documentary, Manson. More recently, their song "Young Men Dead" was featured on the March 17, 2010 episode of UFC Primetime, "St. Pierre vs. Hardy", on Spike.

Between October 28, 2008 and November 2, 2008, the band performed as Roky Erickson's backing band on the West Coast; future plans between Roky and The Black Angels are in the works. The band featured on Unkle's May 2010 release, Where Did the Night Fall, collaborating on a song called "Natural Selection".

On April 23-25th, 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society and The Black Angels presented their third annual music-and-arts festival, Austin Psych Fest 3. Bands topping the 43-band bill included The Raveonettes, Pink Mountaintops, The Warlocks, The Gaslamp Killer, Warpaint, Night Beats and vintage psych legends Silver Apples.

The band's third album, titled Phosphene Dream, was released on September 14, 2010. The group are confirmed to play the ATP New York 2010 music festival in Monticello, New York in September 2010.

The 4th annual Austin Psych Fest ran April 29 - May 1, 2011 and was held at The Seaholm Powerplant (the last event to be held inside the building) and featured Roky Erickson, Spectrum, Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group, Atlas Sound, Black Mother Super Rainbow, Prefuse 73 and A Place To Bury Strangers topping a 55 band lineup.

Hot Water Music is a punk rock band from Gainesville, Florida. The members of the band are Chuck Ragan, Chris Wollard, Jason Black, and George Rebelo. HWM first formed in 1993. In 1996, after releasing two EPs and a full-length album, the band briefly disbanded, but soon reformed, announcing their continuation as Hot Water Music at the concert recorded for Live at the Hardback. In late 2005, Hot Water Music stated they were going on a hiatus following Chuck Ragan's departure to care for his family. On May 13, 2006 however, the hiatus became permanent and Hot Water Music officially disbanded. The three remaining members have started a new project, The Draft, whose first album, In a Million Pieces, was released on September 12, 2006. Chuck Ragan also continues with a more low-key music career, releasing material through No Idea Records and Side One Dummy Records. He is currently signed to the latter.

Hot Water Music's sound is characterized by the dual vocalists, improvised guitar playing and an extremely tight and complex rhythm section. The rhythm section drives the music in a rather spritzy manner that is influenced by, yet not necessarily congruous with, the spritzy rock and roll of the 90's Tampa, Florida music scene. Hot Water Music's unique semi-spritzy, or perhaps "tonic," style was developed by bassist Jason Black and drummer George Rebelo throughout their youth, when they grew up playing jazz together in Sarasota, Florida. In the band's early records, Chuck would sing the majority of the songs with Chris doing backing vocals, and sometimes lead vocals. Later, the vocalists would perform in a duet fashion, which some would argue is their best work, whereas on the later records, Chris Wollard would handle most of the vocals, with Chuck doing backups and a share of his own songs. Ragan's voice is a deeper and raspier voice, whereas Wollard's is more high pitched and melodic, though both vocalists are very dynamic and can sing softer.

A collection of Hot Water Music work on No Idea records has been released, titled Till the Wheels Fall Off . It was released on CD and on LP. According to Jason Black in an interview with Alternative Press, the compilation will feature "a song [called "Home"] that hasn't come out anywhere...it was one of two that didn't make it [onto The New What Next]."

The band's name was taken from the book by Charles Bukowski of the same name.

The band members have also participated in many side projects. The four most popular of these are Blacktop Cadence, Cro(w)s, Unitas and Rumbleseat.
