Hailing from Portland, Oregon The Decemberists made their first Australian pilgrimage on the back of their 2009 release - The Hazards Of Love - the follow-up to their 2006 breakthrough, The Crane Wife. From their debut, Castaways and Cutouts, in 2002, and its follow-up Her Majesty only a year later, the band have been defined by their eccentricities from the beginning. Producing 18-minute songs, tangled narratives, and featuring accordions, cellos, Wurlitzers, bouzoukis and hurdy-gurdies, THE DECEMBERISTS are no ordinary band. 2005’s Picaresque, brought them a small measure of fame, and the aforementioned 2006’s The Crane Wife was as close to a smash-hit as a folk-rock quintet from Portland can reasonably hope to score with its catchy, concise single "O Valencia!" With songs that range from upbeat pop to instrumentally lush ballads, the band favour the storytelling approach when it comes to songwriting. Producing an old–fashioned prog concept record, The Hazards Of Love is way more about the sound journey than killer choruses, with strummy British folk rock and heavy–metal thunder, orchestral strings and even a children's choir. Full of sprawling song suites, the album is a grandiose narrative about star-crossed lovers William and Margaret - and the dastardly villains who beset them. The Dresden Dolls are an American musical duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 2000, the group consists of Amanda Palmer (vocals, piano, harmonica, ukulele) and Brian Viglione (drums, percussion, guitar, bass guitar, vocals). The two describe their style as "Brechtian punk cabaret", a phrase invented by Palmer because she was "terrified" that the press would invent a name that "would involve the word gothic". The Dresden Dolls are part of an underground dark cabaret movement that started gaining momentum in the early 2000s. A bunch of 50 of Radiohead fans used cheap Flip cameras to record the band’s Aug 23, 2009 show in Prague. Radiohead approved of the DIY concert film, and even provided the filmmakers with the soundboard recordings of the set. Now the concert film, simply called Prague DVD, is available for free download but because of the load on the site it keeps crashing. Which is why we've decided to stream it for you here, in the same way we did for the Nine Inch Nails Lights In The Sky footage. Baroness formed in mid-2003, founded by former members of the punk/metal band Johnny Welfare and the Paychecks. Singer John Baizley creates the artwork for all Baroness albums, and has done artwork for other bands and labels. On May 23, 2011, the band launched their official website. This Heavy Metal LA band, born in the 80's, is renowned for its distinctive, technical instrumental style. Considered as up there with the best of the thrash metal crew, Megadeth has become a god of its musical kind with fans, credited with increasing the popularity of the thrash metal sub-genre. With an active career spanning over 25 years the band has undergone heaps of changes, meaning it boasts a history of 20 official members. The Kills is a rock band formed by American singer Alison Mosshart ("VV") and British guitarist Jamie Hince ("Hotel"). Their first three albums, Keep On Your Mean Side, No Wow, and Midnight Boom have gathered much critical praise. Blood Pressures, their fourth and most recent studio album, was released on April 4, 2011 worldwide and April 5, 2011 in the United States. They are currently on tour in the United States and Canada until May 14, 2011. From there they are touring the United Kingdom and other countries throughout the Summer and Fall. However, they will return to the United States for Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 57th. Mosshart was previously in Floridian punk rock band Discount, and Hince was in the British rock bands Fiji, Scarfo and Blyth Power (the latter describe themselves as a mix of The Clash, Steeleye Span and The Rubettes). The duo first met when Mosshart heard Hince practicing in the hotel room above hers, and when Scarfo and Discount disbanded, they struck up a songwriting partnership. For months, the pair air mailed work tapes across the Atlantic; this proved to test the patience of both artists as it took days or weeks to get each other's tapes, so Mosshart moved from her Florida home under the guidance of Lauren Antonina Herbert to London. Wanting to cut themselves off from their pasts, Mosshart and Hince renamed themselves "VV" and "Hotel" respectively and began writing sparse, minimalist songs together with the aid of a drum machine. In 2001 they showcased their new songs on a well received demo tape; however, the pair shunned approaches from major record labels. Recording as VV and Hotel, they contributed the song "Restaurant Blouse" to the compilation If the Twenty-First Century Did Not Exist, It Would Be Necessary to Invent It. Shortly after this they recorded their debut release, the Black Rooster EP, which saw release on British indie label Domino Records and was picked up for distribution by Dim Mak Records in the United States. The record could not have been more of a departure from both artists' previous bands. It was lo-fi in both musical and aesthetic terms. The record sleeve featured photos of Mosshart and Hince taken in a photo booth rather than professional photography. Musically, the record was a sparse, lo-fi Garage rock/Blues hybrid. The DESCENDENTS, driven by “rejection, coffee, girls, fishing, and food”, emerged from the South Bay area of Los Angeles in late 1978 during the early days of the Southern California punk scene. They were influenced by everything from the Beach Boys, to fledgling punk bands like the Ramones and Black Flag. Originally a three piece, made up of guitarist Frank Navetta, bassist Tony Lombardo, and drummer Bill Stevenson, the band released their debut single, Ride The Wild in 1979, while most of the members were still attending Manhattan Beach’s Mira Costa High School. After this first release the band was quickly joined by another high school friend, Milo Aukerman. Aukerman became their lead vocalist and the band released the seminal debut LP, Milo Goes To College. Through the bowels of ingenuity the album’s fusion of catcy melodies and raw enerty has been said to have bred the “pop punk” genre. The album’s anthems, delivered by the crop-haired geek-cum-heartthrob, Aukerman, inspired the Los Angeles Times to write, “…perfect for the little guy who was ever called a nerd and never got the girl. The chain saw pop combined with earthy humor conveys what is often an inarticulate rage.” Despite the levity of the album’s tracks, Milo actually did go to college. Stevenson joined Black Flag, and thus began the first of many breaks for the band. In 1985 Stevenson left Black Flag, Aukerman left college (for a while), and DESCENDENTS were reborn for the first of many times. Taking a more pop-flavored turn, and with a couple of line-up changes, the band continued touring and releasing albums. With the induction of Karl Alvarez on bass and Stephen Egerton on guitar, and the release of 1987’s ALL LP, the DESCENDENTS now had what Hit Parade magazine referred to as “killer chops”. However, in the fall of 1987, Aukerman went back to college, eventually earning a PhD, and embarking upon a career in research. Stevenson, Alvarez, and Egerton carried on under the name of ALL, further honing their musicianship and songwriting. In 1996, inspired by his wife, Dr. Aukerman rediscovered his musical inclinations, which lead to the DESCENDENTS recording their first album in 9 years, Everything Sucks, a perfect return to the musical form that the band had become known for. Produced by Stevenson and Egerton at the band’s own aptly-named studio – The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado – Everything Sucks picks up exactly where ALL left off. Following a rigorous tour, Aukerman once again returned to his life in the lab. In 2004 DESCENDENTS surprised fans once again with two new releases on Fat Wreck Chords – the EP ‘Merican and full-length Cool To Be You. Once again, Aukerman heeded the call in 2010, as DESCENDENTS return to play shows in Austin and Australia, as well as shows in Europe and North America for 2011. Of course, the future is unwritten. Just as it seemed DESCENDENTS closed their final chapter in musical history, the fourth decade of DESCENDENTS evolution begins. Emilie Autumn Liddell was born in Los Angeles, California, better known by her stage name Emilie Autumn, is an American singer-songwriter, poet, and violinist. Autumn draws influence for her music—the style of which she has alternatively labeled as "Victoriandustrial" and glam rock—from plays, novels, and history, particularly the Victorian era. Performing with her all-female backing band The Bloody Crumpets, Autumn incorporates elements of classical music, cabaret, electronica, and glam rock with theatrics, burlesque, and "flamboyant" outfits. Outspoken about bipolar disorder and her experience in a modern-day psychiatric ward, she has written an autobiographical novel, 2010's The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls. Her music encompasses a wide range of styles. Autumn's vocal range registers from contralto to dramatic soprano, and her vocal work has been compared to Tori Amos, Kate Bush, and The Creatures. She has released two instrumental albums (On a Day... and Laced/Unlaced), and three which feature her vocals: Enchant, Opheliac, and A Bit o' This & That. The 2003 album Enchant drew on "new age chamber music, trip-hop baroque, and experimental space pop". Autumn layers her voice frequently, and incorporates electronics and electronic effects into her work on Enchant; she also combines strings and piano for some songs, while others feature mainly the piano or violin. Band of Skulls are an English alternative rock band from Southampton, consisting of Russell Marsden (guitar, vocals), Emma Richardson (bass, vocals), and Matt Hayward (drums). The group formed after meeting in college, although Russell and Matt have been friends since school. Initially, the group played at night clubs in the Greater London area and recorded some demos under the name of Fleeing New York before changing their name to Band of Skulls in November 2008. The band's original demos were recorded in their father's shed-studio. Band of Skulls debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, distributed by Shangri-La Music, was released exclusively on the iTunes Store on 6 March 2009, followed by a general release on 20 March. The track "I Know What I Am" was chosen as iTunes' free Single of the Week to coincide with the digital release. The song was also featured in the soundtrack for TV series Friday Night Lights, Volume 2, which was released on 4 May 2010. Another track that was not actually on the album,"Friends", was included on The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack in November 2009.
