“If he carries on like this, he’s going to be MASSIVE – capitals absolutely necessary,” British music bible NME recently gushed about Eugene McGuinness’ new album ‘The Invitation To The Voyage’. Going off everything we’ve heard, seen and now filmed, we’d have to agree.
His sold-out show at The Lexington last month captures this London lightning rod in his element in front of a hometown crowd. Suave, smart and deliciously retro, his songs spin the intricacies and madness of modern life into slick guitar-pop gold, from roaring rocker ‘Lion’ to the cheekily playful ‘Sugarplum’ and the epic ‘Peter Gunn’-sampling ‘Shotgun’.
As our friends at The View From The Music declared post-show: “This was Eugene’s night, the night he and his act came of age and established themselves as one of the most powerful forces in the Brit-pop world for years to come.”
